Scuppernong is the classic bronze muscadine that many Southerners remember growing on backyard vines and family farms. This historic variety produces medium-sized bronze fruit with the rich, sweet, old-fashioned muscadine flavor people love.
Well suited to the heat and humidity of North Florida, the Florida Panhandle, and the Gulf Coast, Scuppernong can be enjoyed fresh from the vine or used for homemade jelly, juice, preserves, and wine.
Important Pollination Information
Scuppernong is a female-flowered muscadine and is not self-fertile. It must be planted near a self-fertile muscadine variety to produce a dependable fruit crop.
Good pollinator choices include:
• Cowart
• Carlos
• Nesbitt
• Triumph
• Lane
The pollinator may be either a bronze or black muscadine. Fruit color does not affect pollination.

North Florida Growing Note
Plant Scuppernong in a sunny location where water does not stand after heavy rain. Muscadines need a strong, permanent trellis because a healthy vine can live and produce for many years.
Annual pruning helps maintain good fruit production. Muscadines are normally pruned during February or early March before strong spring growth begins.
